DUES Principal Welcome Letter

Hello Doraville United Owls!

It is my privilege and honor to serve as the Principal of Doraville United Elementary School. I was born and raised by Puerto Rican parents in Orlando, FL where I was taught the value of perseverance, hard work, and determination. I graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education - Biology. My love for learning and teaching brought me back to UCF for a Master of Education in Educational Leadership while I taught middle school science and later, high school science. A wonderful mentor facilitated the transition to leadership and I became a discipline dean in Orlando at a prominent high school. Soon life brought me to Atlanta, where I became the Assistant Principal of Instruction at Peachtree Middle and later the Principal for over 2 years. My passion to serve this school and our community propelled me to transition to Doraville United.

Our goal at Doraville United is to educate the whole child and to instill in our students a love for learning which celebrates their creativity, innovation, and culture. We are a community of learners in a welcoming, clean, safe, and student-centered environment.

Student achievement is the heart and soul of our work here. Collaboration has allowed our teachers to develop a program that exemplifies high academic standards through the use of appropriate standards-based materials and research-based instructional strategies. Our experienced staff maintains a focus on student needs every single day. Parent and community involvement is vital to our success at Doraville United. Through ongoing communication, we are confident that DUES will continue to be an outstanding school that promotes academic and social-emotional growth for all of our students. We encourage our parents, community members and local businesses to partner with us as we prepare our scholars for the world. It is the greatest investment you will ever make. Again, welcome to the Doraville United Elementary School family, where we work together to achieve academic success and develop respect for all! We are looking forward to an outstanding year of teaching and learning!

With pride,

Michelle Perez
